What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

Interesting! I always like a touch of tartan amongst the Christmas decorations … the pageant in our state capital always has at least one pipe band marching along with the floats, and my parents were friends with members of a band. was always fun to pick out the familiar faces!

Our local pageant was last night, so there are not many sleeps left before Christmas day.

The first design today is rather smart.

The way the pieced blocks frame the applique blocks in the main part of the quilt is very interesting.

Interesting.

I like this one, and wondering if it would look OK with a wider variety of colours.

Some quilting, but not a lot, but it would be enough to hold the layers together using some well bonded modern waddings.

How to quilt the light areas in the second is a good question.

These designs use 5 Patch blocks, plus some blank spaces. I like empty spaces to show off quilting, but it also helps to show off the design created with the pieced blocks.

The second design doesn’t have blank blocks, but it still has spaces for some creative quilting.

Exciting!

Not very often I say that about any pieced quilt design, real or virtual, but that was my first reaction looking at this one this morning when I had decided to use this project file for today’s virtual designs.

Second design is ok, but not exciting.

I love the star blocks around the outside of the first design today.

I love the center block in the second when compared to the other very similar blocks … the only difference is the more open appearance due to a different fabric, the background fabric, used for eight very skinny triangles.

Like the second design too, but the winner today is the first one by far.

Not a lot less pink, but this one would be much easier to live with!

I am not a great fan of pieced quilts, but I like these designs, influenced at least a little by the applique border.

Not too sure whether I like the colours or not, but do love the fabric designs, and the colours work in the design.

Too much white in the second, but I like the design overall.

Different sort of colours for me, though still close to my favourite green, just different shades of green.

I bought a plant sometime ago, which I will plant when summer starts cooling a little, which will add a touch of contrast in the spot I intend placing it. If the description I have read is any indication it will look like the centre of the design.

The second design is the same layout with modified blocks.

Parts of the first design made me think of some weird earthmoving equipment, or may be a diagram of some of the pieces inside an equally weird computer system! Wonder what was in the early morning coffee today!

The second one makes me think of a quilt … the coffee must be wearing off!

I like the first offering for today.

By the way, the Hi 5s in the title of this project file refers to the grid on which I drafted the blocks.

Nothing like something bright and merry att his time of the year.

In colder climates than here these would make nice throw rugs/quilts.

I like at least some applique in quilts, along with room to show off some quilting. The first design today lacks applique, but I love it. Perhaps I would applique those pointy stars, and I know I would at least applique the centre circle.

Another very interesting design. The white highlights really add some sparkle to these designs.
